Blood Pressure

Today, one in three people are diagnosed as hypertensive and they run the risk of experiencing other extreme health issues such as heart attacks, strokes, and increased mortality. The main treatment for high blood pressure is medication and dietary adjustment to help relieve the symptoms. Unfortunately, the medication does not always work and more people are beginning to look for alternative solutions to these methods.

Traditional Treatment Methods:

High blood pressure medications and even blood thinners are currently being prescribed by doctors and are used by a large population of people struggling with this disease. The estimated cost of medications and treatments in 2016 was in excess of $63 billion dollars for hypertension. With the medications and the traditional methods not showing a significant improvement in the lives of those taking them, treatments with a much higher success rate are needed and welcomed by people suffering from high blood pressure.

Promising Chiropractic
Procedures:

The current climate of the population is leaning towards more natural treatments and away from the use of large amounts of medications. Many medications have been shown to have harmful side effects, so people are increasingly choosing to opt out of taking these medications daily. One study saw a 68-year old woman who was suffering from fatigue, weakness, tachycardia, and hypertension, and she began receiving treatment focused on upper cervical chiropractic care. After receiving her second adjustment, her heart rate began to show signs of improvement, her blood pressure returned to normal, and she was able to discontinue her medication.

Chiropractic Adjustments:

Another promising case study  was logged by two chiropractors who saw a patient that they treated with an upper cervical-specific protocol with torque and adjustments. The most exciting thing about this study is that after the technique and adjustments were performed, the patient who had suffered for years with hypertension had a gradual reduction of his blood pressure over 7 months that allowed him to be able to stop taking his blood pressure medication.

Atlas Vertebra Realignment Study:

The atlas vertebra is located at the top of the neck, and a misalignment of this vertebra has been long known to cause blood pressure issues. In a recent study, doctors sought to explore how a nonsurgical intervention in Atlas vertebra would improve blood pressure. They wanted to see undoubtedly if the typical adjustment that chiropractors can perform on the atlas would help patients with hypertension. The study reported that even though most of the patients reported little or no neck pain, they all had hypertension and misalignments in the Atlas vertebra. After adjustments, the majority of patients reported a reduction in blood pressure.

Chiropractic Solutions:

Spinal adjustments performed by your chiropractor that correct alignment issues have been shown to improve blood flow and the results are the lowering of blood pressure and the cessation of other health issues that may stem from hypertension. These studies are encouraging to individuals who have to take multiple costly and potentially dangerous medications on a daily basis. With the promising results, chiropractors are seeing more people who want to resolve their high blood pressure with adjustment techniques.
